Frequently Asked Questions for Patients

What is physical therapy (PT)?
Physical therapy is a scientific profession concerned with the treatment of injury and/or disease of the body. Physical therapists are specialists in the musculoskeletal and neurological systems, pediatrics, and other medical and surgical conditions; they utilize unique hands-on techniques in conjunction with proven modalities and individualized exercise programs to assist patients in attaining optimal movement and function.

How do I know if I need physical therapy?
We recommend that you talk to your physician about your condition and options for treatment. You may also contact us to discuss if physical therapy may be of benefit.

Do I need to see my physician before starting physical therapy?
It is generally recommended that you see your physician before beginning physical therapy. If you are not sure if you are in need of physical therapy, feel free to contact us.

Will my insurance company cover the treatment and how much does it cost?
Golden Hills accepts most private insurance, Medicare, HMOs and industrial insurance carriers. A payment plan can also be worked out for cash patients. The cost for physical therapy varies in relation to the type of treatment provided. The cost will be determined once your treatment plan is established by the physical therapist.

How is Golden Hills different from other clinics?
Our philosophy at Golden Hills is to evaluate patients as a whole, addressing the physical, mental and emotional aspects of their well being. This approach facilitates the healing process in a manner which not only enables sooner return to normal function, but it also keeps healthcare costs at a minimum. Our mission is to aid the healing process by educating each patient in self-management at home and work. This helps to ensure a complete and long term recovery as well as preventing reoccurring injuries.

What are your hours and how soon can I be seen for an appointment?
Our hours are Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. and on Tuesday and Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to noon. You may be seen for an appointment usually on the same day you contact us.

What should I bring and wear on my first visit?
You need to bring your referral/prescription from the doctor and your insurance information. Wear comfortable clothing, e.g., shorts, tee shirt, sweats, comfortable shoes, etc.

Who will be working with me?
One of our licensed physical therapists will be working with you through the evaluation process and continue with you throughout the duration of your care.

How long will I attend physical therapy?
The duration of your physical therapy will depend on your condition, your treatment plan set by the therapist and most importantly, your involvement in the treatment process. Each visit is not restricted by time, only by participation. On average, patients tend to spend 1 hour in our clinic during their appointments.

What type of treatment will I receive?
Your treatment plan will be determined by you and your physical therapist after a thorough evaluation has been completed.
